Project Overview

As lead Director of Photography, I oversaw the visual coverage for this multi-day international event and shaped this highlight film to capture the energy, voices and shared values of the Start Network Assembly 2024 in Bangkok. With a five-person media team, we filmed panels, workshops, interviews and community moments, weaving them into a lively film that reflects how members from around the world connect, learn and work together to strengthen humanitarian action.

Project Challenges

  • Multiple simultaneous activities requiring parallel coverage
  • Very tight scheduling across sessions, interviews, and field activities
  • High volume of content to manage, organise, and process in real-time
  • Fast-turnaround photo and video delivery, including same-day highlights and multi-camera session recordings.

Work Process

Prep

Before the event, I worked closely with the client through online discussions to understand the agenda, tone and visual direction. We also met on site one day before the event to recce the venue and plan the shooting flow. Because the highlight video needed to feel energetic, welcoming and not overly documentary-heavy, we built a coverage plan centered on candid interactions, warm moments and lively pacing. To achieve this, we planned for at least two videographers filming continuously throughout the conference.

Filming

With many sessions, side activities and interviews happening at the same time, our team divided responsibilities to keep coverage continuous. Client representatives handled the interviews to help speakers feel more at ease, allowing us to capture natural and meaningful responses. Spare cameras and an audio recorder were set up whenever needed to record full sessions and important soundbites. Because this was an international event, it was essential that our whole crew communicated fluently in English, ensuring smooth coordination with participants, organisers and shifting schedules.

In the Edit

The highlight video was shaped around lively visuals, candid human moments and a sense of community. Because the conference required an accelerated edit for the final-day screening, footage review, selection and assembly happened daily, sometimes hourly. After the event, the final highlight video and full-session recordings were completed with a more refined and polished finish.
